- 1 cup toor dal
- 1/4 tsp turmeric
- 1 tbsp chili powder
- 3 green chilies slit
- salt to taste
- Raw mango 1 cup grated
- 3 cups water
Seasoning the dal:
- 2 Tbsp ghee
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/2 Tsp Mustard seeds
- 1/2 Tsp Urad dal
- 3 Dry red chilies
- 5 Garlic pods crushed
- 1 tbsp grated raw mango
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- Curry Leaves
- Coriander for garnish
Instructions:
- Firstly, wash the toor dal and keep it aside.
- Take a pressure cooker and add the washed toor dal, water, turmeric, chili powder, green chilies, and grated mango. Don’t forget to add the seed into the dal so that the dal takes all the taste from the shell of the seed.
- Close the cooker and let it cook for 5 whistles, 3 on high and 2 on low.
- Let it cook for a bit and then open the cooker and add salt.
- Mash the dal with a wooden hand masher or a ladle and keep it aside.

- Take a kadai and add ghee, once it’s hot, add cumin seeds, urad dal, mustard seeds, dry red chilies, and curry leaves and fry them slightly.
- Add garlic and coriander and mix well.
- Now add 1 tbsp of grated mango and mix well until all the seasonings are well combined.
- Add red chili powder and fry everything well.
- Finally, add the boiled dal and mix well.
- Bring it to a boil and dish out.
